"Tamala 2010: A Punk Cat in Space", Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2002, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N92
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 2002 for the first release of Tamala 2010: A Punk Cat in Space, the experimental animated feature directed by t.o.L and produced by the independent studio Trees of Life.
The film follows Tamala, a seemingly cute kitten with a punk attitude, as she travels through a futuristic, corporate-controlled galaxy dominated by the monolithic conglomerate Catty & Co. Beneath its adorable, retro-styled animation inspired by 1960s kawaii character design lies a satirical, often surreal critique of consumerism, authoritarianism, and the meaning of existence. The narrative blends absurdist humour, science fiction, and philosophical themes, creating a cult favourite among fans of avant-garde animation.
This Japanese B2-size poster was issued exclusively for the film’s 2002 domestic theatrical release. The striking design features a monochrome cityscape backdrop filled with visual Easter eggs and corporate logos, over which Tamala—bandaged and dangling by wires—appears in bold contrast. The lower section’s vivid orange block, emblazoned with the title in stark black type, further enhances the punk aesthetic.
