“Castle in the Sky” (天空の城ラピュタ), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1986, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O181
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1986 to promote Castle in the Sky (Laputa) in association with Animage / Tokuma (Animage mark present in the margin; small release text alongside the large “LAPUTA” logotype refers to the soundtrack issue). Early Studio Ghibli / Animage promotional sheets from the film’s launch year are highly collectible.
Film background
Hayao Miyazaki’s first Studio Ghibli feature follows orphaned Sheeta and engineer’s apprentice Pazu as they flee pirates and soldiers in search of the floating city of Laputa. Airborne chases, steam-age machinery, and a lyrical score by Joe Hisaishi made the film a foundational Ghibli classic.
Poster design
A minimalist, landscape-format country sheet: the Dola gang’s hulking Tiger Moth airship, rendered in Miyazaki’s sketch-like cross-hatching, dominates an open cream field as a crewman stands on the prow. The bold stone-cut title 「天空の城ラピュタ」 sits at upper left, while a massive burgundy “LAPUTA” anchors the lower right. The Animage logo in the corner and fine print credits are classic hallmarks of an authentic 1986 promotional issue with superb wall presence.
