“Octopussy” (007/オクトパシー), Japanese James Bond Movie Poster, Original Release 1983, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) C44 A

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1983 release of Octopussy, the thirteenth official James Bond film. Directed by John Glen and starring Roger Moore as 007, the film co‑stars Maud Adams, Louis Jourdan and Kabir Bedi in a Cold War caper involving jewel smuggling, a rogue Soviet general and a plot to detonate a nuclear device on a U.S. air base in West Germany.

Film background
After a fellow agent is killed while carrying a fake Fabergé egg, Bond’s investigation leads from an auction in London to India, where he uncovers a partnership between exiled prince Kamal Khan and fanatical General Orlov. Using a travelling circus run by the enigmatic Octopussy as cover, they plan to smuggle a live warhead into a NATO base, triggering unilateral disarmament in Europe. The film mixes tense train‑top fights and aerial stunts with the series’ trademark exotic locations, gadgetry and tongue‑in‑cheek humour, and was a major international box‑office success in 1983.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 artwork is classic high‑gloss Bond spectacle. Centre stage stands the tuxedo‑clad secret agent with his pistol raised, flanked back‑to‑back by a glamorous woman in a slashed red evening gown. In a clever nod to the title, multiple additional arms radiate from behind her, each holding an object—gun, champagne glass, Fabergé egg, throwing knife—like a living, human octopus. Around this central figure swirl vignettes from the film: a jet streaking past rocky cliffs, a train thundering along the tracks, a palace resembling India’s great monuments, a tiger, villains, henchmen and a bejewelled performer. The bold red “007” gun logo and Japanese title オクトパシー dominate the lower third, while vertical copy at the right promises the “series’ biggest” thrills.
