“Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon SuperS / Ami-chan no Hatsukoi / Azuki-chan: The Movie” (美少女戦士セーラームーンSuperS/亜美ちゃんの初恋/あずきちゃん), Original Japanese Toei Anime Fair Theatrical Poster 1995, B1 Size (73 × 103 cm) IA25

Sale price $200.00

This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster printed in 1995 for the winter Toei Anime Fair programme that premiered on 23 December 1995. While often described simply as a Sailor Moon poster, it is more accurately a triple-feature cinema poster promoting the three films screened together as part of that seasonal Toei release.

The main feature is Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie (Sailor 9 Soldiers United! Miracle of the Black Dream Hole), which dominates the composition with Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon at centre, surrounded by the Inner and Outer Guardians. Also promoted here are the short feature Ami-chan no Hatsukoi (Ami’s First Love), spotlighting Sailor Mercury, and Azuki-chan: The Movie, the theatrical companion piece to the much-loved shōjo series.

Film background

Issued for one of the classic 1990s Toei Anime Fair holiday programmes, this poster captures a very specific moment in Japanese anime exhibition history, when major family and youth titles were packaged together as special seasonal theatrical events. For collectors, that gives it broader significance than a standard single-title poster: it documents how Sailor Moon SuperS was originally experienced in cinemas, alongside companion shorts aimed at the same audience.

Because this is the larger B1 format, it is also markedly scarcer than the standard B2 sheets more often found for anime titles of the period. B1 posters were generally produced in smaller numbers for prominent theatre and lobby display, which makes surviving examples especially desirable today.

Poster design

This is a superb and highly energetic 1990s Toei collage design. The upper two-thirds are devoted to the world of Sailor Moon SuperS, with a bright, layered composition built around Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon, surrounded by the other Guardians in dynamic poses. The colour is vivid and unmistakably of its era: brilliant yellows, pinks, blues, and reds, all arranged with the high-impact visual clarity that made 1990s anime posters so appealing.

Below, the layout expands to incorporate Azuki-chan and Ami’s First Love, with the lower panels working almost like bonus features inside the poster itself. The result is both busy and beautifully balanced, exactly the kind of celebratory holiday-release anime poster that has tremendous wall presence in B1.

The top tagline — essentially promising a beautiful dream present from the Sailor Guardians this winter — reinforces the poster’s festive theatrical identity and adds further period charm.
