"Ramon il Messicano", Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1966, STB Size (51x145cm) O418
Size: STB / 20 × 57 in (51 × 145 cm)
Country / Studio: Japan / Italian import
Film & context
A quintessential mid‑period Spaghetti Western, released in Japan during the post‑Leone boom. Italian imports played heavily in Tokyo and Osaka; Japanese marketers leaned into their pulp energy with bold captions and collage.
Design highlights
Title in kanji 「荒野の復讐鬼」(Kōya no Fukushū‑ki / “Avenger‑Demon of the Wasteland”) slashes down the left panel in red brush‑forms. The cool teal vertical to the right barks:
“He shoots! He kills! A peerlessly cruel hired gunman, come from the depths of hell!”
A noirish, high‑contrast close‑up of the hat‑shadowed anti‑hero dominates; a pale carnation pink vignette sequence above (burned wagon, bodies, pursuit) delivers grindhouse promise with art‑house finesse—very Japanese in layout.
Condition
Original, theatre‑used; expected folds and minor handling; strong impression throughout.
Authentication
Guaranteed original; COA included.
About STB (Tatekan) posters
STBs are tall, two‑sheet verticals (c. 51 × 145 cm) printed on thin stock and designed to be posted outdoors on purpose‑built wooden stands at cinemas and busy transit approaches. They functioned as mini billboards; because they were exposed to weather and changed frequently, most were discarded. Original survivors are ultra‑rare, especially for Spaghetti Westerns at the height of their Japanese popularity.
