“Sanjuro” (椿三十郎), Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) D232

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1976 for the domestic re-release of Sanjuro (1962), Akira Kurosawa’s sly, kinetic companion piece to Yojimbo, starring Toshirō Mifune as the nameless rōnin who adopts the alias “Sanjūrō.” 1970s revival sheets for Kurosawa/Mifune classics are highly collectible.

Film background
Nine earnest young samurai uncover corruption in their clan and are saved—again and again—by a scruffy, razor-witted drifter whose sword is as quick as his sarcasm. Leaner and more satirical than Yojimbo, Sanjuro culminates in one of cinema’s most famous duels and remains a landmark of chambara craft and comic timing.

Poster design
A bold country sheet typically featuring Mifune front and center—kimono dark against a light ground—brandishing katana with clenched intensity. Flanking blocks carry the crimson logotype 「椿三十郎」 and billing for Kurosawa, Mifune, and Toho, with stills or brush-stroke camellia motifs (tsubaki) echoing the title. The Eirin rating and Toho release credit along the footer are classic hallmarks of an authentic 1976 re-issue with strong wall presence.
