“Saw” (ソウ), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 2005, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O745
This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster printed in 2005 to advertise the Japanese home-video release of Saw (ソウ), timed to the DVD & VHS release (3.11) and marketed here as a DTS edition. Issued for retailers and video shops (not sold to the public), these campaign posters were produced in smaller quantities than theatrical one-sheets and are highly collectible.
Film background
Originally released in 2004, James Wan’s Saw became a defining modern horror breakthrough—an ingeniously contained, high-concept thriller that helped reshape 2000s genre cinema. Built around a brutal moral “game” and a mystery structure that rewards first-time viewing, the film’s impact was amplified by word-of-mouth and a twist ending that quickly entered horror folklore, launching a major franchise.
Poster design
A stark, high-tension design that sells the concept instantly: a grimy, industrial bathroom setting with a corpse sprawled across the centre and a second figure crawling in the distance, all framed by aggressive Japanese copy. The title SAW / ソウ cuts through the composition with a crosshair-like graphic mark, while the lower section becomes a dense retail campaign panel—complete with small pack-shot imagery, pricing, and the bold release callout “3.11 DVD & VHS RELEASE”. The overall aesthetic—dirty whites, rusted tiles, and clinical emptiness—perfectly mirrors the film’s claustrophobic dread.
