“Se7en” / “Seven” / 「セブン」, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1995, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) F269
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1995 for the first Japanese release of Se7en / 「セブン」, David Fincher’s landmark serial-killer thriller starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.
One of the defining crime thrillers of the 1990s, Se7en remains celebrated for its oppressive atmosphere, rain-soaked visual style, disturbing moral framework, and unforgettable final act.
Film background
The film follows veteran detective William Somerset, days from retirement, and younger detective David Mills, newly assigned to the city, as they investigate a series of meticulously staged murders based on the seven deadly sins: gluttony, greed, sloth, lust, pride, envy, and wrath.
Directed by David Fincher, the film became a major international success and helped define the darker tone of 1990s crime cinema. Its bleak city setting, stylised title sequence, philosophical menace, and devastating ending have made it one of the most influential thrillers of its decade.
Poster design
This Japanese B2 uses a raw, graphic montage style. The right side is dominated by intense portraits of the two detectives, with the upper image strongly lit in orange and blue tones and the lower portrait emerging from the darkness.
The left side features a tilted magazine or evidence image, while a shadowy figure stands in the blue-lit background, adding to the poster’s sense of pursuit and dread. Down the centre, the seven deadly sins are listed vertically in English and Japanese:
Wrath / 憤怒
Envy / 嫉妬
Pride / 高慢
Lust / 肉欲
Sloth / 怠惰
Greed / 強欲
Gluttony / 大食
The top headline announces the film’s U.S. success and high-tension appeal:
「全米No.1。息をのむスリル&アクション!緊張度120%」
“No. 1 in America. Breathless thrills and action! Tension level 120%.”
Beneath it appears the chilling line:
「7つの大罪は7人の死で完成する。」
“The seven deadly sins are completed by seven deaths.”
The lower half is slashed by the film’s iconic red tally-mark logo, with the Japanese title 「セブン」 printed in distressed white lettering below. The overall design is dark, aggressive, and highly effective, perfectly matching the film’s atmosphere of urban decay, obsession, and moral horror.
