Film background
A modern classic of animation, Spirited Away follows 10‑year‑old Chihiro Ogino, who wanders into a fantastical realm of kami (spirits) after moving to a new town. When her parents are transformed into pigs by the witch Yubaba, Chihiro must work in Yubaba’s bathhouse under the name “Sen” to save them and find a way home. Upon its July 20, 2001 release, the film broke box‑office records in Japan and became the highest‑grossing film in the country’s history at the time.Internationally it went on to win the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003—the first (and still one of the very few) non‑English‑language films to receive the award.

Poster design
This is the iconic domestic key visual used across Japan. In the foreground, Chihiro stands in her pink work smock, glancing back over her shoulder, while one of her transformed parents—now a placid, worried pig—looms just behind the fence. The background shows the lantern‑lit spirit town at night, with warm reds and eerie greens leading the eye into the maze of bathhouse streets; a faint, translucent No‑Face hovers on the right‑hand walkway. A vertical yellow tagline reads:
「トンネルのむこうは、不思議の町でした。」
(“Beyond the tunnel, there was a mysterious town.”)
The bold white‑and‑violet title 千と千尋の神隠し anchors the lower band alongside the credit block and the Studio Ghibli and Toho logos, with the line 宮崎 駿 監督作品 (“A film by Hayao Miyazaki”) highlighted above. It’s a richly atmospheric composition that captures both the danger and wonder of Chihiro’s journey—and one of the most recognizable Ghibli posters ever produced.

This poster is in excellent condition, with only minor handling wear typical of a vintage theatrical sheet. Please refer to the imagery (front and back) as this is the exact poster for sale.

It is over 24 years old.

It is not a reproduction or a reprint.
