This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1983 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (当時タイトル表記「ジェダイの復讐」), directed by Richard Marquand and released in Japan by 20th Century Fox. It is the conclusion of the original Star Wars trilogy created by George Lucas, bringing Luke Skywalker’s journey with Darth Vader and the Empire to its climactic end.

Film background

In this third chapter, the Rebel Alliance launches a desperate assault on a second Death Star under construction, while Luke returns to Yoda for final training and prepares to confront Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. On the forest moon of Endor, Han, Leia, Chewbacca and their allies team with the Ewoks to disable the shield generator protecting the battle station. Themes of redemption, temptation and family destiny come to the fore as Luke risks his soul to save his father from the dark side. The film combines large‑scale space battles with intimate character drama and has long been a favourite among fans for its emotional resolution.

Poster design

The Japanese B2 features a classic montage composition packed with iconic imagery. The partially constructed Death Star looms huge in the background, its superlaser dish clearly visible, while swarms of X‑wings and TIE fighters dogfight around it. In the lower left, Darth Vader’s dark helmeted visage emerges from the shadows, overlapped by Luke wielding a glowing green lightsaber in a dynamic forward stance. Beside him, Princess Leia—here in her Jabba’s palace costume—aims a blaster, with Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, droids C‑3PO and R2‑D2, Ewoks and other allies arrayed around the bottom edge. The blazing red header proclaims this as the “3rd instalment and final chapter” of the Star Wars series, while the huge teal katakana title 「スター・ウォーズ」 and red sub‑title 「ジェダイの復讐」 dominate the lower third. It’s a vibrant, jam‑packed design that epitomises early‑’80s space‑opera spectacle.
