"TADANORI YOKOO - DROOL", Japanese Contemporary Art Poster, Original Release 1970, B1 Size (71 x 103cm) O208
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1970 for the promotion of TADANORI YOKOO – DROOL.
Issued in the very large and scarcer B1 format (71 × 103 cm), this striking piece showcases Tadanori Yokoo’s singular blend of pop, surrealism, and mysticism. A towering figure in Japanese graphic design of the 1960s–70s, Yokoo is often compared with international greats such as Milton Glaser and Seymour Chwast, yet his work remains unmistakably personal. Trained in theatre design, influenced by Akira Kurosawa and Yukio Mishima, and energized by late‑’60s psychedelia and travels in India, Yokoo built a visual language that earned him international acclaim—appearing in MoMA’s 1968 “Word & Image” exhibition and later receiving a MoMA solo show. He eventually shifted his focus to painting in 1981, while continuing to shape both fine art and graphic design.
Condition: Excellent overall. Paper is strong with vivid inks. There is minor brown spotting/foxing in the white lower margin and a few tiny specks in the blue field (see additional photos). We have taken this into account in the pricing. Once framed, the poster will display beautifully.
It is over 54 years old!
