This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1974 for the first Japanese release of The Exorcist (1973), William Friedkin’s landmark supernatural horror film based on William Peter Blatty’s best‑selling novel. The movie’s story of a 12‑year‑old girl possessed by a demon shocked audiences worldwide, earning ten Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture) and becoming one of the most influential horror films ever made. 

Design
The poster uses the now‑iconic silhouette image of Father Merrin arriving beneath a streetlamp outside the MacNeil house, bathed in an eerie cone of white light against a deep black field. Above, bold lavender katakana spelling 「エクソシスト」 dominates the composition, under the original English title THE EXORCIST. Japanese copy and awards credits run discreetly along the lower edge, printed over a band of soft violet that balances the stark monochrome imagery. The minimalist design perfectly captures the film’s mood of encroaching dread and the clash between the ordinary Georgetown street and the supernatural forces within.
