"The Italian Job", Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1969, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O274
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed for the first domestic release of Peter Collinson’s swinging-sixties caper The Italian Job (1969). Starring Michael Caine with Noël Coward, Raf Vallone, and Rossano Brazzi, the film turned the Mini Cooper into a pop-culture icon and delivered one of cinema’s most beloved heists—equal parts mod style, cheeky humor, and precision stunt driving. Quincy Jones’s exuberant score (“Getta Bloomin’ Move On!”) and the Turin chase cemented the movie’s cult status.
Film background
Caine’s Charlie Croker leads a crew to jack Torino gold bullion and escape via a ballet of Minis over rooftops, stairways, and traffic tunnels. Shot on Italian locations with practical stunts and a famously cliff-hanger finale, the film helped define the British caper picture and continues to influence heist cinema, advertising, and car culture.
Poster design
A kinetic, collage-style design that captures pure motion: a Mini launches off a ramp toward the viewer, tire tracks streaking across a stylized city canyon while other Minis slalom below. At lower left, the cheeky motif of a tattooed “map back” nods to the gang’s intricate plan; a seated gunman and Croker’s mod silhouette add underworld cool. The bold title 「ミニミニ大作戦」 pops in cyan and pink against a black band carrying the bilingual credit block (Paramount release, 映倫 seal), with “THE ITALIAN JOB” printed in English at center.
