“The Million Dollar Hotel” / 「ミリオンダラー・ホテル」, Original Japanese Movie Poster 2000, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA846

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for The Million Dollar Hotel / 「ミリオンダラー・ホテル」, the atmospheric mystery-drama directed by Wim Wenders and starring Jeremy Davies, Milla Jovovich, and Mel Gibson.

A melancholic, visually distinctive work from Wenders’ later career, the film was developed from a story by Bono and Nicholas Klein, with music closely associated with U2 and the wider world of late-1990s alternative rock. This Japanese poster captures the film’s dreamlike Los Angeles atmosphere through a beautifully structured triptych design.

Film background
Set in Los Angeles, The Million Dollar Hotel follows an eccentric community of outsiders living in a decaying downtown hotel. After the son of a powerful media figure dies under mysterious circumstances, an FBI agent arrives to investigate, uncovering a fragile world of delusion, longing, romance, and emotional damage.

Directed by Wim Wenders, the film opened the 50th Berlin International Film Festival and received the Silver Bear Jury Prize. Its mood is characteristically Wenders: urban, poetic, wounded, and deeply preoccupied with people living at the edge of society.

Poster design
The poster uses a refined three-panel structure. The upper panel shows a figure running across a rooftop walkway beneath reversed signage, creating a sense of movement, isolation, and urban melancholy. The central panel presents the glowing title sign THE MILLION DOLLAR HOTEL, lit like an old theatre marquee against a deep blue night tone.

The lower panel features Milla Jovovich as Eloise, barefoot and wearing a flowing silver dress, walking across an industrial rooftop setting. This image gives the poster its strongest emotional pull: romantic, lonely, and slightly unreal.

The Japanese tagline reads:

「2001年 L.A.――トムトムとエロイーズ。二人の想いは“天使の街”を翔んだ。かぎりなく切なく、かぎりなくいとおしい、そこは、純粋な愛が生まれるところ…」

roughly:

“Los Angeles, 2001 — Tom Tom and Eloise. Their feelings soared above the City of Angels. Infinitely painful, infinitely precious — this is where pure love is born…”

At upper right, the gold festival seal announces the film as the 50th Berlin International Film Festival opening film and winner of the Silver Bear Jury Prize.
