"The Reivers", Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1969, STB Size (c.51 cm × 145 cm) N24

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1969 for the first release of The Reivers.

This almost 5′ tall STB poster features fantastic artwork. The tatekan STB format had much lower print numbers compared to regular Japanese B2s. They are very rare, especially for more popular film titles, and are highly sought after by collectors today.

The Reivers is a 1969 American coming-of-age comedy-drama directed by Mark Rydell and based on William Faulkner’s 1962 Pulitzer-winning novel. Set in rural Mississippi in 1905, the film follows eleven-year-old Lucius Priest (Mitch Vogel) who, together with family retainer “Boon” Hogganbeck (Steve McQueen) and stable hand Ned McCaslin (Rupert Crosse), “borrows” Lucius’s grandfather’s brand-new 1905 Winton Flyer to make a riotous road-trip to Memphis. Their escapades—horse-racing, brothel misadventures, and moral awakenings—blend gentle Southern humour with Faulkner’s nostalgic look at honour and maturity. Steve McQueen delivers a charismatic performance, while Rupert Crosse earned an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actor, the first Black actor so honoured since 1939.
