Original Japanese B1 poster (c.71 × 103 cm) for Satsuo Yamamoto’s political thriller Kinkanshoku (金環蝕, 1975)—also known as Solar Eclipse—based on Tatsuzō Ishikawa’s novel. Artwork and title lettering by Susumu Masukawa (益川進), whose bold, expressionist hand defined many prestige Japanese campaigns of the era. A ferocious tableau of apes and elites encircles a figure at the center—an unforgettable critique of power and corruption. First domestic release by Daiei (Toho distribution).
Cast along the top includes Tatsuya Nakadai and Rentaro Mikuni, with Machiko Kyō and Tamao Nakamura among an all‑star ensemble. Score by Masaru Sato; cinematography Setsuo Kobayashi. A key work in Yamamoto’s late period and a searing portrait of 1970s political scandal.

This is an arresting, hand‑painted design that stops viewers in their tracks—equal parts allegory and indictment. A standout centerpiece for any Japanese cinema or political‑poster collection.
Visual notes: Masukawa’s brush‑stroke logotype looms over the composition while a ring of beasts suggests the eclipse of ethics by moneyed power. Luminous blues, inky blacks, and flare‑hot reds remain beautifully saturated.
