This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1951 for the first release of The Set-Up.
Adapted by Art Cohn from a poem by Joseph Moncure March, this film is arguably Robert Ryan's finest. Ryan portrays Bill "Stoker" Thompson, a washed-up boxer who refuses to give up his failing career despite the pleas of his wife. With little chance of winning the upcoming fight, Stoker's manager secretly makes a deal with a crooked gambler for him to take a dive, but doesn't disclose this information until the fight is well underway. With his pride wounded, Stoker fights his greatest battle. The fight sequence is one of the most brutal ever filmed showing close-ups of battered faces.
