This is an original ultra rare Japanese poster printed in 1953 for the first release of Tokyo Story (Tôkyô Monogatari) directed by the legendary Yasujiro Ozu. This poster has been conservation linen-backed and is in a mint condition.
Yasujiro Ozu is one of Japan`s most celebrated and prolific directors and directed 44 films over a very long career. Tokyo Story is widely regarded as Ozu's masterpiece and is often cited as one of the greatest films ever made. In 2012, it was voted the best film of all time in a poll of film directors by Sight & Sound magazine.
This Japanese drama film was directed by Yasujiro Ozu, and is about an aging husband and wife who make the trip to Tokyo to visit their grown children. Unexpectedly, they are met with the harsh reality that their sons and daughters are not willing to make time for them. Fortunately, the couple is met with warmth by their widowed daughter-in-law. Beautifully presented, this story is familiar the world over, and Ozu's treatment of the subject brought well deserved acclaim, some even calling Tokyo Story his masterpiece. (Source: HA)
