Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese A1 promotional poster printed in 1986 for the release of Urusei Yatsura 4: Lum the Forever (うる星やつら4 ラム・ザ・フォーエバー), the fourth animated feature based on Rumiko Takahashi’s celebrated manga and anime franchise.

A particularly appealing and increasingly elusive format, this A1-size poster was produced for Japanese theatrical display and presents one of the most charming and visually distinctive designs from the Urusei Yatsura film series. For collectors of Rumiko Takahashi, vintage anime, and 1980s Japanese popular culture, it is an especially desirable original item.

Film background
Released in 1986, Urusei Yatsura 4: Lum the Forever is widely regarded as one of the most unusual and intellectually ambitious entries in the series. Directed by Kazuo Yamazaki and produced by Studio Deen, the film departs from the broad comic energy of earlier installments and moves into a more dreamlike, philosophical register.

The story unfolds in Tomobiki Town, where reality begins to slip into an eerie state of suspension after a sacred cherry tree is cut down. As the familiar world becomes unstable and strangely symbolic, Lum loses her powers and disappears, leaving Ataru and the rest of the cast to navigate an increasingly surreal landscape. The film has long been admired for its reflective tone, its visual atmosphere, and its singular place within the Urusei Yatsura universe.

Poster design
The design is immediately striking for its warm, nostalgic palette and deceptively gentle mood. Against a luminous golden-yellow background, Lum stands at the centre of the composition in casual dress—pink top and blue overalls—rendered in a softer and more humanised manner than her usual iconic tiger-striped look.

Around her are child-like versions of the main cast, rushing toward and around her across a chalked hopscotch-like ground plane. The scene includes Ataru Moroboshi, Shinobu Miyake, Megane, and Mendō, while Ten appears at upper right in his tiger-striped outfit, flying excitedly beside Lum. The use of younger versions of the characters gives the image a curiously tender and slightly uncanny feeling, perfectly in keeping with the film’s themes of memory, innocence, impermanence, and shifting reality.

At top left appears the official title branding:

「うる星やつら4」
with the subtitle
「ラム・ザ・フォーエバー」

The result is an image that is both highly decorative and emotionally resonant—one of the most elegant poster designs associated with the franchise.

Format
This poster is A1 size (59.4 × 84.1 cm), a scarcer and visually impressive format within the world of vintage Japanese anime posters.

Condition
Very good+ condition. The poster displays very well overall, with strong colour, clean printed detail, and attractive presentation.

There is some edge wear and handling wear, including visible wear along the right edge and a small area of paper loss / chipping at the side, as shown in the detailed photographs. The reverse shows light age-related wear and toning consistent with an original poster of this period. Despite these signs of age, the poster remains a highly presentable original example, and once framed it will display extremely well.

Please review the photographs carefully, as they show the exact poster for sale.
