This is an original Japanese A4 chirashi mini poster / promotional flyer produced for the 2001 Japanese DVD release of Akira DVD Special Edition (アキラ). Issued to promote the DVD Special Edition released on 25 October 2001, this flyer represents the film’s important early-2000s home-video campaign in Japan, when Akira was presented in a newly enhanced digital edition.

Akira (1988) is a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk animated feature directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, produced by Ryōhei Suzuki and Shunzō Katō, and co-written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto. Based on Otomo’s own manga, first serialized in 1982, the film set new standards for animation through its dense visual detail, fluid movement, and extraordinary depiction of Neo-Tokyo. It remains one of the most influential animated films ever made and a defining work in both anime and cyberpunk culture.

The front design features a striking red monochrome composition with a line-art image of Tetsuo against a sweeping cloak-like form. The central Japanese tagline reads:

「我々は今、AKIRAの世紀にいる・・・」
(“We are now in the century of AKIRA...”)

Below, the large silver-and-black AKIRA title is paired with the English release text “DVD SPECIAL EDITION 10.25 ON SALE”, giving the piece strong visual impact as a Japanese home-video release poster/flyer.
