“Robinson’s Garden” (ロビンソンの庭), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1987, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA932

Sale price $250.00

This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1987 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Robinson’s Garden (ロビンソンの庭), a Japan independent film directed by Masashi Yamamoto (山本政志). A cult title of late-1980s Japanese underground cinema, this poster is especially prized for its bold, graphic design and vivid colour.

This poster is extremely hard to find even in Japan!

Film background
Released in 1987, Robinson’s Garden is an offbeat, internationally travelled Japanese indie feature that reflects the era’s countercultural energy—street-level, experimental, and defiantly non-mainstream. Masashi Yamamoto’s work is closely associated with the independent film movement of the period, and this title gained attention through festival circulation, making original theatrical paper increasingly hard to source today.

Poster design
A striking, pop-art B2 dominated by fluorescent colour and playful typography. The title 「ロビンソンの庭」 explodes across the upper field in oversized bubble-like pink characters outlined in black, floating over a saturated green cloud background. Below, a loose, expressive illustration shows a bright yellow nude figure embracing a black, plant-like form, rendered with thick brush strokes and raw linework—equal parts comic, erotic, and avant-garde. Festival and award callouts line the left column, adding to the “art-house discovery” feel. An unmistakable, high-impact Japanese design piece—more like a contemporary graphic poster than conventional film advertising.
