Sale price $495.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1986 for the first release of Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!, the landmark animated feature adaptation of Nintendo’s world-famous Super Mario Bros. franchise.

A true piece of early Nintendo history, this poster represents the first animated theatrical film based on Super Mario Bros., issued at the height of the original Famicom boom in Japan. For collectors of Nintendo, video game history, and 1980s Japanese popular culture, it is an especially desirable and increasingly difficult poster to find in strong original condition.

Film background
Released in 1986, Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen! was the first feature-length animated film built around Nintendo’s breakout video game phenomenon. Issued during the explosive early success of the Famicom era, the film brought Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, and a host of familiar game enemies to the big screen in vivid animated form.

The film occupies a singular place in video game and animation history as the earliest theatrical Mario movie, predating later global adaptations and standing as one of the most important crossover artifacts between 1980s gaming culture and Japanese theatrical anime.

Poster design
The design is immediately arresting and unmistakably of its period, built around a bold red-and-white radiating sunburst background that gives the composition tremendous visual energy.

At the centre, Mario leaps forward in triumphant fashion, rendered in bright classic style, smiling and raising his fist while clutching a Super Mushroom. Around him is a lively arrangement of familiar elements from the game world: Bowser’s castle, Princess Peach, Toads, Koopa Troopa, Lakitu, Hammer Bro, Cheep Cheep, Blooper, and other recognisable adversaries from the original Nintendo universe.

The upper section announces the theatrical launch and includes the large Japanese title:

「ピーチ姫救出大作戦!」
“The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!”

A particularly appealing feature is the prominent green-and-blue billing for the accompanying programme:

「同時上映 スーパーマリオブラザーズ2 攻略法」
“Simultaneous screening: Super Mario Bros. 2 Strategy Guide.”

This unusual double-feature billing adds an extra layer of period specificity and makes the poster especially evocative of the original Japanese theatrical release context.

Overall, the artwork is bright, playful, highly graphic, and deeply nostalgic, with strong appeal both as a decorative display piece and as a historically important Nintendo collectible.

Condition
Very good to excellent condition. Please review the photo carefully, as it shows the exact poster for sale.

The poster displays very well overall, with strong colour, crisp printed detail, and excellent presentation from the front. There are signs of age and handling consistent with an original 1986 theatrical poster, including fold wear and some general handling/storage wear. The reverse shows light age-related wear and minor marks, but the poster remains an attractive and highly presentable original example.
