The Curse of the Jade Scorpion is a 2001 screwball-crime comedy written, directed by, and starring Woody Allen. Set in 1940s Manhattan, the film co-stars Helen Hunt, Dan Aykroyd, Charlize Theron, and Elizabeth Berkley.

Hard-boiled yet old-fashioned insurance investigator C. W. Briggs (Woody Allen) prides himself on being the best at sniffing out fraud—until a nightclub hypnotist plants the post-hypnotic trigger “Constantinople.” Whenever the word is spoken, Briggs and efficiency expert Betty Ann Fitzgerald (Helen Hunt) fall under a spell, stealing jewels for the hypnotist and then forgetting everything. As burglaries multiply and suspicion circles, the bickering duo must untangle a web of romance, rivalry, and stage-craft to clear their names. Overflowing with rapid-fire banter, jazzy big-band cues, and period art-deco flair, Allen’s homage to 1940s noir delivers a lighthearted caper with a hypnotic twist.
