This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 2026 for the 4K restoration release of La Haine, Mathieu Kassovitz’s defining portrait of alienation, friendship and violence in the Paris suburbs. The Japanese revival opened on 9 October 2026, bringing the landmark 1995 film back to cinemas.
This example was sourced directly from surplus stock at Disk Union in Kichijoji, Tokyo.
Starring Vincent Cassel, Saïd Taghmaoui and Hubert Koundé, La Haine follows three friends over twenty-four hours in the aftermath of a riot. As they move between their housing estate and central Paris, everyday encounters become increasingly charged with frustration and danger. A missing police handgun brings the possibility of violence into their already precarious lives.
Kassovitz’s direction and the film’s stark monochrome photography give these events an extraordinary immediacy. Awarded Best Director at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, La Haine became a landmark of French cinema, with an influence extending into music, fashion and street culture.
The poster centres on the unforgettable photograph of its three protagonists leaning towards the camera. Cassel aims a revolver directly at the viewer, while Taghmaoui and Koundé stare out from beside him. The close framing compresses the figures into a tense, confrontational image, with grainy photographic detail reinforcing the film’s raw atmosphere.
A vertical Japanese tagline runs through the photograph:
「これは、落下する世界の話」
“This is the story of a world falling.”
The line echoes the film’s recurring image of a fall and its ominous distinction between the descent and the landing.
Below the photograph, a broad pale field carries “LA HAINE” in heavy black lettering, followed by the French director, cast and production credits. This generous space gives the design a clear visual rhythm before the enormous red Japanese title 「憎しみ 4K」 cuts across the bottom.
Red also highlights the Cannes award emblem in the upper-right corner and the word “falling” within the tagline. These selective accents sharpen the impact of the otherwise monochrome composition. Disk Union and ALFAZBET logos complete the lower-right margin.
A powerful Japanese revival design for collectors of French cinema, Vincent Cassel and one of the most influential films of the 1990s.
Condition: Near Mint.
An exceptionally clean example with crisp photographic detail and strong colour. Only very slight handling undulations are apparent, most noticeable on the reverse. The poster presents beautifully.
