“Animal House” (アニマル・ハウス), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1979, B3 Size (c. 36 × 51.5 cm) O636
This is an original Japanese B3 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic release of National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978), John Landis’s anarchic campus-comedy landmark—starring John Belushi (as the immortal “Bluto”), with Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Tom Hulce, Stephen Furst, and Donald Sutherland. The film opened theatrically in Japan on 21 April 1979 (Japan first release).
A genuine touchstone of American comedy—wildly influential, endlessly quoted, and still the template for “frat-house” chaos—Animal House remains one of the defining studio comedies of the 1970s.
Poster design
A brilliantly illustrated, detail-packed riot: the Delta House is rendered as a single exploding tableau of disorder—motorbikes, beer, ladders, thrown objects and partying bodies—framed by bold diagonal pink striping that gives the sheet instant pop on a wall. The Japanese marketing copy leans hard into the film’s “unhinged youth” energy, presenting it as a no-holds-barred American campus phenomenon making landfall in Japan.
A major bonus with this format: the reverse is fully printed with Japanese text and images (programme-style synopsis/cast/features), making it especially desirable as original Japanese theatrical marketing ephemera rather than a standard one-sided poster.
