"Apocalypse Now", Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1979, B1 Size (71 × 103 cm)
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1979 for the first release of Apocalypse Now.
This large B1 is elusive and incredibly hard to find even in Japan. The poster is in very good condition—see the additional close‑ups showing light scattered foxing to the white borders (heaviest upper left), a short closed split at the top‑center border, and small handling waves/creases; colors are rich and the image field presents beautifully.
Apocalypse Now is a 1979 American epic psychological war film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola. It stars Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Martin Sheen, Frederic Forrest, Albert Hall, Sam Bottoms, Laurence Fishburne, Harrison Ford, and Dennis Hopper. Co‑written by Coppola and John Milius with narration by Michael Herr, the screenplay is loosely based on Joseph Conrad’s 1899 novella Heart of Darkness, transposing the story to the Vietnam War as Captain Willard journeys upriver to terminate the rogue Colonel Kurtz.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, the picture received eight Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Cinematography and Best Sound, and was a prizewinner at Cannes in 1979. In 2000 it was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
