This is an original Japanese promotional B3 poster printed in 1998 by Japan Post in collaboration with Tezuka Productions to advertise an Astro Boy illustrated postcard set.
Background
Created by Osamu Tezuka in 1952, Tetsuwan Atomu (Astro Boy) became a cultural phenomenon and the blueprint for televised anime with the 1963 black-and-white TV series. The character remains one of Japan’s most recognizable pop icons.
Poster design
A bold, pop-art composition shows Astro blasting off across a red/orange starburst. Along the lower section are miniature images of the five postcard designs included in the set, with the Japan Post (郵便局) logo at bottom right—pure, high-impact 90s retail display.
