Japanese Poster Size Guide — B2, B1, STB, B0 & larger formats

An original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, released in Japan by Warner Bros. on 18 June 2005. The single-sided design shows Christian Bale in the cowl, his silhouette dissolving into a swarm of bats against a copper-coloured sky.

In Excellent condition, with deep blacks and warm amber tones that clearly define the individual wings against the clouds.

Film background

Written by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer, Batman Begins opens Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Christian Bale plays Bruce Wayne, who returns to Gotham after years abroad and chooses the creature he feared as a child as his disguise. Michael Caine plays Alfred Pennyworth, the family butler who helps Bruce conceal his new identity, while Gary Oldman appears as Jim Gordon, one of the few Gotham police officers Bruce trusts.

Poster design

Batman’s bowed head fills the upper half of the sheet. A narrow rim of light traces the back of his cowl, while a glint catches one eye beneath the mask. Across his chest, the outline of the cape breaks apart into bats of different sizes. The largest wings echo the shape of the bronze-edged bat emblem above the Japanese title.

A single row of white lettering names the principal cast. Ken Watanabe receives prominent billing on the Japanese sheet, his name in kanji standing out among the surrounding katakana. The final three names read:

「トム・ウィルキンソン 渡辺謙 モーガン・フリーマン」
“Tom Wilkinson, Ken Watanabe, Morgan Freeman.”
