“Cannabis / French Intrigue” (ガラスの墓標), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 1970, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) ZA497
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the release of Cannabis (released in Japan as Garasu no Bohyō / “Glass Tombstone”), the 1970 French‑Italian crime drama directed by Pierre Koralnik and starring Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin.
Film background
The film follows Serge Morgan, a hitman who arrives in New York for a job and becomes romantically entangled with a young woman, Jane, played by Birkin. As organised‑crime rivalries escalate, their love affair is overshadowed by betrayal, addiction and violence, set to a moody score composed by Gainsbourg himself. Part gangster movie, part melancholy love story, Cannabis captures the disillusioned mood of early‑1970s Euro‑crime cinema.
Poster design
The Japanese B2 delivers stylish psychological drama. A huge close‑up of Birkin’s tear‑streaked face fills the left half of the design, rendered in soft, grainy colour. Over the right side spreads a graphic shatter pattern, like a spiderweb crack in glass, radiating from a dark bullet impact—visualising the “glass tombstone” of the Japanese title. At the bottom, Birkin lounges in a white slip, sprawling across an armchair while Gainsbourg slumps nearby, pistol in hand. The English credits (“Serge Gainsbourg Jane Birkin in Cannabis”) sit above a jagged green Japanese title “ガラスの墓標,” set against a rough white paint‑splash accent.
