“Diamonds Are Forever” (ダイヤモンドは永遠に), Original Japanese Movie Poster, 1971, B2 Size — ZA1177

An original Japanese B2 theatrical poster from the 1971 Japanese release of Diamonds Are Forever, celebrating Sean Connery’s return as James Bond with a densely composed montage of portraits, action scenes and oversized 007 branding.

Directed by Guy Hamilton, the film reunited Connery with the series following George Lazenby’s appearance in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. It became Connery’s final Bond film for EON Productions, with Jill St. John as Tiffany Case, Charles Gray as Blofeld, and a title song performed by Shirley Bassey, composed by John Barry with lyrics by Don Black.

Connery’s return provides the poster’s central selling point. Red Japanese lettering runs down the right margin:

A commanding portrait of Connery in a grey suit, holding a silenced pistol, dominates the composition. Around him, the design assembles helicopter formations, desert pursuit vehicles, stunt-driving imagery and Blofeld’s offshore installation. Earth appears against the dark upper-left background, introducing the film’s space-age threat, while a small moon buggy occupies the lower right.

Jill St. John, pictured aiming a pistol, and Trina Parks as Thumper, in a white bikini, bring further character imagery to the lower half. A smaller illustration of Bond and two women standing within a faceted diamond adds another layer to the montage.

The green English title block sits centrally beneath Connery, while an enormous red 007 logo and bold Japanese title anchor the bottom. United Artists branding and the Technicolor/Panavision credits complete the original theatrical presentation.

A striking example of Japanese Bond advertising, combining the international appeal of Connery’s portrait with an unusually detailed layout that rewards close inspection.
