This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the 1972 theatrical re-release of Dr. No (1962), the film that launched the James Bond phenomenon. Directed by Terence Young and starring Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, Joseph Wiseman, and Jack Lord, Dr. No established the franchise’s core language—cold-blooded spycraft, exotic locations, glamorous danger, and the instantly recognisable Bond Theme by Monty Norman. Japanese re-release posters from the early 1970s are especially collectible, capturing the moment Bond became a global institution—repackaged, re-promoted, and pushed back into cinemas as an “event” series.

Poster design

A spectacular, high-impact Japanese design that blends pop collage and bold typography. Connery’s intense close-up dominates the sheet, framed by a gigantic silenced pistol angled upward—pure Bond iconography. Behind him runs a clever graphic motif of sheet music (“By Monty Norman” is printed at the top), nodding directly to the film’s legendary theme and giving the composition a distinctive design twist rarely seen in Bond posters. Ursula Andress appears in iconic beach glamour at left, while smaller action vignettes (cards, surveillance, and set-piece moments) build the film’s pulp energy. The bottom title treatment is classic: huge black “007” over vivid red 「ドクター・ノオ」, creating an exceptionally frame-friendly, era-perfect B2 display piece.
