“Dr. No” (007 ドクター・ノオ), 1972 Re‑Release Japanese Movie Poster, B3 Size (36 × 51 cm) ZA435

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B3 poster printed in 1972 for a theatrical re‑release of Dr. No (007 ドクター・ノオ), the film that introduced Sean Connery as James Bond.

Film background

Originally released in 1962, Dr. No sees MI6 agent James Bond dispatched to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a fellow operative, leading him to the mysterious Crab Key island and the titular villain, a SPECTRE scientist plotting to disrupt American rocket launches. Modest in scale compared with later entries, the film nonetheless established many of the series’ trademarks: the gun‑barrel opening, the signature theme, exotic locations and Bond’s cool, sardonic persona. It launched one of cinema’s longest‑running franchises.

Poster design

The 1972 Japanese B3 re‑release artwork is a bold, colourful reimagining of the classic imagery. Connery’s Bond dominates the poster, gun raised, with a backdrop of musical notation referencing the famous Bond theme. In the foreground, Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder strides across the frame in her iconic white bikini, while smaller vignettes depict the casino sequence, car chases and tropical danger. The bright red 007 logo and Japanese title leap off the pale background, creating an exciting, almost pop‑art feel that suits the early‑70s Bond revival.
