This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1991 for the first theatrical release of Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, released in Japan under the title ドラゴンボールZ 超サイヤ人だ孫悟空. Issued for the spring Toei Anime Fair circuit, it is a superb piece of original early-1990s Dragon Ball paper, with exactly the kind of bold, high-energy character line-up and vivid colour that collectors want from vintage theatrical anime posters.

Film background
Released in 1991, this was one of the early Dragon Ball Z theatrical features, directed by Mitsuo Hashimoto and based on the work of Akira Toriyama. The film features the key series voice cast, including Masako Nozawa as Goku, Toshio Furukawa as Piccolo, Mayumi Tanaka as Krillin, and Hiromi Tsuru as Bulma. The story pits Goku and the Z Fighters against the Namekian tyrant Lord Slug, who arrives on Earth with plans for conquest and destruction. Like the best Dragon Ball Z movies of the era, it condenses the franchise’s appeal into one fast, colourful burst of action: huge villains, escalating power, and heroic group confrontation on a grand scale.

Poster design
This Japanese poster is fantastic. The composition is dominated by a roaring, battle-ready Goku in the foreground, rendered with huge impact and backed by a wall of heroes and villains from the film. Piccolo, Krillin, Gohan, and others gather around him, while the monstrous presence of Lord Slug looms behind, giving the sheet real dramatic weight. The large DRAGON BALL Z logo and the bright yellow lower field make the poster immediately recognisable, and the overall design has the rich, saturated look of classic early-1990s Toei theatrical anime. It is bold, exciting, and extremely displayable.
