“E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (E.T.), Original Japanese Re-Release Movie Poster c. 1985, Rare Constellation Design, B2 Size (51.5 × 72.8 cm) — T234
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical re-release poster for Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, featuring the beautiful “Constellation” design. A rare and particularly atmospheric style, it transforms the film’s familiar reaching hands into a luminous arrangement of stars above the Earth.
Originally released in 1982, E.T. tells the story of Elliott, a lonely boy who befriends an extraterrestrial stranded on Earth and helps him return home. Written by Melissa Mathison, with music by John Williams, the film combines an intimate portrait of childhood with the wonder of contact beyond our world. Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace and Drew Barrymore lead the cast.
This Japanese revival poster captures that sense of wonder through a remarkably restrained composition. Two hands emerge from the darkness as glowing blue outlines punctuated by golden stars, reaching towards one another across a densely scattered star field. The familiar gesture becomes something celestial: a connection between two beings expressed on the scale of the universe.
Below, the curved horizon of the Earth glows in deep blue, red and violet, giving the image depth and a dramatic foundation. The warm yellow E.T. logo sits prominently between the hands and the planet, accompanied by the English title and Spielberg’s name. Compact Japanese credits and the UIP distributor mark complete the lower margin.
The vivid pink Japanese tagline reads:
「今年の夏、もういちど日本中が愛にふるえる。」
“This summer, all of Japan will be moved by love once again.”
The wording explicitly celebrates the film’s return to Japanese cinemas. Its emotional simplicity complements the artwork beautifully, making this an especially appealing piece for collectors of Spielberg, science-fiction cinema and distinctive Japanese release designs.
Condition: Excellent. There are light handling creases, some small surface scuffs visible in the close-up photograph, and gentle horizontal impressions visible on the reverse. The artwork retains strong colour and excellent overall display appeal.
