This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1974 first release of Emmanuelle, directed by Just Jaeckin and starring Sylvia Kristel. Distributed by Nippon Herald Films, the film opened in Japan on 21 December 1974.

Film background

Adapted from Emmanuelle Arsan’s novel, this French erotic drama follows a diplomat’s wife in Bangkok as she explores questions of desire, marriage, and personal freedom. Its distinctive photographic style and Sylvia Kristel’s central performance established the visual identity of a series that continued through several subsequent films.

The original release brought Kristel widespread recognition and attracted considerable attention in Japan. The film remains closely associated with the changing attitudes and distinctive visual culture of 1970s European cinema.

Poster design
