This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1981 for the Japanese release of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York (ニューヨーク1997), starring Kurt Russell as anti‑hero Snake Plissken alongside Lee Van Cleef, Donald Pleasence, Ernest Borgnine, and Isaac Hayes. Released in Japan on May 23, 1981, the film’s reputation only grew with time—today it’s firmly entrenched as a cult action/sci‑fi classic, endlessly referenced for its attitude, synth‑soaked mood, and dystopian iconography.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 showcases the film’s most famous visual hook: the Statue of Liberty rendered as a battered symbol of captivity, wrapped in barbed wire and looming over a montage of key scenes.
