“Good Morning, Vietnam” (グッドモーニング,ベトナム), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1988, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA687
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic theatrical release of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987/88 Japan release), the hugely popular comedy-drama directed by Barry Levinson and starring Robin Williams in one of his defining performances. Set in Saigon during the Vietnam War, the film follows irrepressible Armed Forces Radio DJ Adrian Cronauer as his anarchic humour collides with military censorship and the grim realities behind the broadcasts. A major mainstream hit and a key late-1980s cultural title, the film is also celebrated for its iconic soundtrack and Williams’ rapid-fire, improvisational energy—a landmark role that earned him an Academy Award® nomination.
Poster design
A bold, clean Japanese campaign design that reads like a perfect “one image = the whole movie” statement. The top section is dominated by sky and clouds, with the huge headline 「全米を笑わせ感動させた No.1ヒット作品」 (“The No.1 hit that made America laugh and be moved”), positioning it as an outright crowd-pleaser. The title treatment is fantastic: the Japanese 「グッドモーニング,ベトナム」 in vivid red, layered over the English title GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM and a graphic radio emblem with lightning bolts—pure broadcast iconography. The lower half features Robin Williams mid-broadcast, headphones on, mouth open in full DJ mode, framed in a bright green border over the American flag—energetic, instantly recognisable, and extremely frame-friendly.
