This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster printed in 1987 for the first Japanese release of Jaws: The Revenge, issued domestically under the distinctive title 「ジョーズ’87 復讐篇」 — Jaws ’87: The Revenge Chapter.

A dramatic large-format Japanese poster, this B1 presents a far more aggressive and theatrical design than many international campaign images for the film. With its huge frontal shark breach, bold red JAWS lettering, and distinctive Japanese title treatment, it is an especially striking piece of 1980s blockbuster horror advertising.

Film background
Released in 1987, Jaws: The Revenge is the fourth film in the Jaws series. Directed by Joseph Sargent, the film stars Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles, and Michael Caine.

The story follows Ellen Brody, now convinced that the shark menace has somehow returned to target her family. After tragedy strikes once again, she travels to the Bahamas, where the terror of Amity appears to follow her across the sea. The film transforms the shark from natural predator into something closer to a personal, almost mythic force of vengeance.

Poster design
This Japanese B1 poster uses a superbly direct and frightening composition. A massive great white shark erupts head-on from the ocean, jaws open, teeth exposed, and sea foam exploding around it. Behind the shark, the classic red JAWS title sits partially obscured by the creature and the water spray, creating a strong sense of depth and impact.

The top copy reads:

Beneath it appears:

The lower title 「ジョーズ’87 復讐篇」 is printed in large orange lettering, giving the Japanese campaign its own distinct identity. The addition of ’87 turns the film into a major summer-event release, while 「復讐篇」 — “Revenge Chapter” — emphasises the film’s personal vendetta premise.

The cast billing highlights Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles, and Michael Caine, with production credits for Joseph Sargent, Michael de Guzman, and Michael Small printed along the lower margin.

Format note
This is the large B1 format, approximately 72.8 × 103 cm, double the display area of a standard Japanese B2 poster. B1 posters were printed in significantly smaller numbers and used for prominent theatrical display, making surviving examples much harder to find than the standard B2 size.

The scale greatly enhances the impact of the shark image and gives the poster a commanding presence when framed.
