“Alice in the Cities” (都会のアリス), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1974, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA814
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the theatrical release of Alice in the Cities (Alice in den Städten, 1974), Wim Wenders’ luminous road-movie classic and one of the foundational works of the New German Cinema. Shot in expressive black-and-white and built around drift, chance encounters, and quiet emotional revelation, the film follows a German journalist and a young girl travelling across America and Europe—an understated, deeply human story often credited with helping define the modern “road movie” as an art-cinema form.
Poster design
A beautifully designed, minimalist Japanese one-sheet with strong graphic elegance. The large title 「都会のアリス」 sits at the top in warm red-orange typography, while the central monochrome photograph frames the two leads inside a car—an intimate, contemplative image that captures the film’s mood of displacement and connection. Below, the layout incorporates a Polaroid-style photo insert and a smaller still of the pair walking through the city, reinforcing the film’s themes of travel and memory. The typography includes the original German title Alice in den Städten and credits Wenders as director/screenwriter, giving the sheet a refined bilingual art-house presence. Extremely frame-friendly and a superb poster for collectors of Wenders, New German Cinema, and 1970s graphic design.
