This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1985 for the first theatrical release of Kinnikuman: Counterattack! The Underground Space Choujin.
Premiering on 21 December 1985 as part of Toei’s winter vacation anime festival, this fourth Kinnikuman feature (40 min.) was directed by Yasuo Yamayoshi with story supervision by manga duo Yudetamago. When a shadowy alien known as the Emperor of Darkness resurrects an army of “Hidden Space Choujin,” Kinnikuman and the Seigi Chōjin heroes—Terryman, Robin Mask, Buffaloman and more—must storm a flying fortress to save the galaxy wrestling-style. Packed with over-the-top holds, cosmic gags, and ’80s synth-rock, the film capped the franchise’s first theatrical trilogy and helped cement Kinnikuman as a pop-culture phenomenon of Japan’s golden shōnen era.
