“Kung Fu Hustle” (カンフーハッスル), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 2004, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) ZA511
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the Japanese release of Kung Fu Hustle, Stephen Chow’s 2004 martial‑arts action‑comedy co‑starring Yuen Wah, Yuen Qiu and Danny Chan.
Film background
Set in 1940s Shanghai, the film follows Sing, a wannabe gangster who tries to join the feared Axe Gang but instead stumbles into a showdown between the gang and unsuspecting kung‑fu masters living incognito in a rundown tenement called Pigsty Alley. Blending classic Hong Kong martial‑arts choreography with Looney Tunes‑style CG exaggeration and Chow’s deadpan humour, Kung Fu Hustle became an international hit and a love‑letter to the golden age of kung‑fu cinema.
Poster design
The Japanese B2 captures the film’s over‑the‑top energy. At the top left, a vertical white tagline exclaims in Japanese, while the bulk of the composition shows Stephen Chow’s character hurtling through the atmosphere like a flaming meteor, arm outstretched in a signature palm strike pose. He streaks from a burst of orange and red light into the blue curve of the Earth below, suggesting both cosmic scale and cartoon spectacle. Along the bottom, the film’s Japanese title “カンフーハッスル” is rendered in chunky metallic red letters over a band of credits, with a small silhouette of a kicking martial artist standing in for the letter “フ”.
