This is an original Japanese poster printed for the release of Kurt Cobain: About a Son.

Kurt Cobain: About a Son is a 2006 American documentary film directed by AJ Schnack. It is based on over 25 hours of previously unheard audio interviews between journalist Michael Azerrad and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, recorded for Azerrad’s 1993 book Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana. The film pairs Cobain’s candid reflections on his childhood, career, struggles, and personal philosophy with striking, atmospheric imagery shot in the places he lived — Aberdeen, Olympia, and Seattle, Washington. The soundtrack features an eclectic mix of music from artists who influenced Cobain, as well as an original score by Steve Fisk and Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie).

The Japanese B2 poster design features a minimalist black background with bold yellow and white typography of the title, paired with a large monochrome photograph of Cobain in a casual, intimate setting. Japanese text highlights the film as a revealing portrait of an artist who changed a generation, presenting his own words as the narrative core.

The film premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival and went on to screen at SXSW, Rome Film Festival, and numerous other festivals worldwide, earning critical acclaim for its intimate and unconventional approach to the rock documentary format.
