“Lawrence of Arabia” (アラビアのロレンス), 1970 Re‑Release Japanese Nakazuri Poster, B3 Size (36 × 51 cm) ZA442

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B3 nakazuri (advance) poster printed in 1970 for the Cinerama re‑release of David Lean’s monumental epic Lawrence of Arabia (アラビアのロレンス).

Film background

Originally released in 1962, Lawrence of Arabia chronicles the adventures of British officer T.E. Lawrence (Peter O’Toole) during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire. Co‑starring Omar Sharif, Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn and Jack Hawkins, the film is celebrated for its sweeping desert vistas, complex portrait of its enigmatic hero and Maurice Jarre’s unforgettable score. It won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and is frequently cited among the greatest films ever made.

The 1970 Japanese re‑release brought the film back to cinemas in a large‑format presentation, introducing a new generation of audiences to Lean’s masterpiece.

Poster design

This B3 nakazuri boasts a striking, graphic reinterpretation of the film’s imagery. Against a swirling orange sunburst sky, a stylised illustration of Lawrence raises a curved Arab sword overhead, the blade cutting across the entire composition. The bold red Japanese title dominates the lower section, with the English “Lawrence of Arabia” logo nestled beneath. The use of hot desert colours and dynamic brushwork gives the piece a powerful, almost pop‑art energy while still evoking the grandeur of the original film.
