“Little Fauss and Big Halsy” (お前と俺), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1971, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA94

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1971 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Little Fauss and Big Halsy (お前と俺), Sidney J. Furie’s offbeat road‑racing drama starring Robert Redford and Michael J. Pollard, released in Japan by C.I.C.

Film background
Redford plays Halsy Knox, a charming but irresponsible motorcycle racer who drifts through the amateur circuit. Pollard is Little Fauss, a shy, talented mechanic and rider who idolises Halsy and becomes his partner—only to be used and betrayed repeatedly as Halsy pursues fame, money and women. Bleaker and more character‑driven than typical racing pictures of the era, the film explores disillusionment at the tail end of the 1960s dream, backed by a Johnny Cash soundtrack.

Poster design
The Japanese poster emphasises the film’s sun‑blasted Americana. A bare‑chested Redford stands front and centre wearing a top hat, aviator shades and a turquoise scarf, while Pollard, in a red leather jacket and round glasses, grins beside him, clutching a chequered flag to his chest. The huge red title 「お前と俺」 dominates the sky above them. Along the bottom, smaller images show dirt‑track races, crashes, a Yamaha bike and the film’s women, suggesting both action and bohemian wandering. English typography for LITTLE FAUSS AND BIG HALSY sits unobtrusively in the lower left, making this a quintessential early‑’70s Redford collectible.
