“Mame” (メイム), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster, 1974, Lucille Ball / Bob Peak Artwork, c. 51 × 73 cm — T28

An original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1974 Japanese release of Mame, starring Lucille Ball. Featuring Bob Peak’s colourful illustrated artwork, this design brings together elaborate costumes, theatrical portraits and Art Deco-inspired frames around the bold pink Japanese title.

Directed by Gene Saks, the film adapts the Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. Ball plays Mame Dennis, an unconventional New York socialite whose life changes when she becomes guardian to her orphaned nephew. Beatrice Arthur, Robert Preston and Bruce Davison join the cast in what became Ball’s final theatrical film appearance.

The composition presents Mame’s world through a series of decorative vignettes: dancing couples, cocktail glasses, feathered accessories, evening dress and a vintage motorcar. At the top, a red-haired Mame raises her arms above an ornate arch, while further portraits and scenes encircle the spacious cream-coloured centre.

The Japanese title メイム appears in vivid pink beneath the English title treatment. Technicolor and Panavision credits sit below the upper illustration, with Warner Bros. distribution and soundtrack details along the bottom margin. Peak’s signature is incorporated near the car at the lower left.

An appealing piece for collectors of Lucille Ball, classic Hollywood musicals and Bob Peak’s film-poster illustrations.
