“The Adventures of Chatran” (子猫物語 / The Adventures of Milo and Otis), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1986, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) F298
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Koneko Monogatari, written and directed by Masanori Hata, produced by Fuji Television and released in Japan by Toho on 12 July 1986. The English title printed on the poster is The Adventures of Chatran. American audiences later came to know the film through the re-edited 1989 version, The Adventures of Milo and Otis, narrated by Dudley Moore.
Set in Hokkaidō, the story follows Chatran, a ginger tabby kitten, and his friend Pūsuke, a pug puppy. Their adventure begins when the wooden box Chatran has climbed into drifts downstream, carrying him away from the farm. The Japanese production credits Kon Ichikawa as collaborating director and Ryuichi Sakamoto as music director, with poetry by Shuntarō Tanikawa read by Kyōko Koizumi.
A large circular photograph shows Chatran among green leaves and pink flowers, one paw raised to his face. Curving around the portrait is the yellow caption 「この夏のヒーローはチャトラン!」 — “This summer’s hero is Chatran!” Below, the four white characters of 「子猫物語」 sit in red, pink and orange blocks, with a green paw print separating koneko (“kitten”) from monogatari (“story”).
Across the lower half, a blue-tinted photograph shows Chatran and Pūsuke between two railway tracks. Small colour stills along the sides pick out episodes from the kitten’s journey: the wooden box afloat on the river, a sow nursing her piglets, and Chatran following a white cat through the snow.
Excellent condition overall.
