“Psycho” (サイコ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1998, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O743

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1998 for the Japanese theatrical release of Psycho (サイコ), Gus Van Sant’s colour remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic, starring Vince Vaughn, Anne Heche, Julianne Moore, and William H. Macy.

Film background
Released in 1998, Van Sant’s Psycho is one of modern cinema’s most talked-about remakes—an intentionally close re-staging of Hitchcock’s original, designed to test how image, editing, and performance shape audience fear when the “same” film is made again in a new era. Whatever one’s view of the experiment, it remains a fascinating late-1990s studio artefact, and a key example of the period’s self-aware relationship with classic Hollywood.

Poster design
A superb, minimalist design that leans into contemporary horror marketing: a blurred nude silhouette behind a shower curtain forms a tall vertical “window” against a deep black field. A red block bleeds up from the base like an alarm light, carrying the chilling English copy: “Check in. Relax. Take a shower.” The Japanese title 「サイコ」 punches through the red/black boundary in bold type, with the fine-print credits contained neatly along the bottom. Clean, graphic, and extremely effective on the wall.
