This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1970 for the first release of Stray Cat Rock: Delinquent Girl Boss (女番長 野良猫ロック), the electrifying first entry in Nikkatsu’s cult Stray Cat Rock / Alleycat Rock series. Directed by Yasuharu Hasebe and starring Akiko Wada and Meiko Kaji, the film stands as one of the defining works of early-1970s Japanese outlaw youth cinema.

Film background

Released in 1970, Stray Cat Rock: Delinquent Girl Boss launched the five-film Stray Cat Rock cycle, later followed by Wild Jumbo, Sex Hunter, Machine Animal, and Crazy Riders ’71. Set in the charged world of biker gangs, street violence, and rebellious youth culture, the film captures the raw, transitional energy of Japanese exploitation cinema at the moment it began to merge pop style, countercultural fashion, and delinquent-girl iconography into something distinctly its own.

For collectors, the importance of this title lies not only in its status as the first film in the series, but also in the presence of Meiko Kaji, who would soon become one of the most iconic faces in Japanese cult cinema.

Poster design

This is a superb and highly dynamic original release design. The composition is dominated by the looming front wheel and handlebars of a motorcycle, around which the principal female figures are arranged with tremendous confidence and style. The huge vertical red title crashes down the centre of the sheet, giving the poster immediate visual force, while the smoky urban background and smaller biker figures reinforce the film’s atmosphere of speed, menace, and youthful defiance.
