Sale price $175.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1994 for the first release of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, the feature-length animated adaptation of Capcom’s hugely influential fighting-game franchise. Directed by Gisaburō Sugii, the film brings together the series’ most iconic characters — including Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, Guile, and M. Bison — and remains one of the most admired video-game adaptations of the 1990s.

Film background

Released in 1994, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie arrived at the height of global Street Fighter fever, when Capcom’s series had already become one of the defining properties in arcade and console gaming. Rather than functioning as a simple spin-off, the film gave the franchise a dramatic, full-scale cinematic treatment, combining martial-arts action, international intrigue, and a darker visual tone than many game adaptations of the period. For collectors, it occupies an important place in anime and gaming history alike: a major Japanese theatrical release tied to one of the most recognisable entertainment properties of its era.

Poster design

This is a superb and highly dramatic Japanese design. The composition is dominated by Ryu in mid-air, launching a powerful kick across the frame against a monumental stone face and violent bolts of lightning. Beneath him are Chun-Li, Cammy, and Ken, grouped tightly above the title in a way that reinforces the ensemble appeal of the film while still making Ryu the clear heroic focus.

The large STREET FIGHTER II MOVIE title treatment has tremendous impact, and the palette of dark stone greys, electric white lightning, and saturated reds, yellows, and violets gives the poster the exact sense of heightened mid-1990s Capcom spectacle that collectors want. A particularly interesting period detail is the small text block at lower right, which ties the campaign to the 1994 Super Famicom and Mega Drive release of Super Street Fighter II, making the sheet an especially appealing crossover piece between anime cinema and vintage video-game culture.

Condition

Very Good / Excellent. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale. The poster presents very strongly overall, with vivid colour, strong paper, and excellent display appeal. There is light age-related handling, faint fold and storage wear, and some visible impression marks / pressure from long-term storage showing chiefly on the reverse. Nothing detracts materially from the overall front presentation.
