An original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Juzo Itami’s Supermarket Woman (1996), featuring a colourful illustrated supermarket scene and a smiling portrait of Nobuko Miyamoto.

Written and directed by Itami, the film stars Miyamoto alongside Masahiko Tsugawa. Its story follows Hanako, a discerning shopper whose practical knowledge helps her childhood friend revive his struggling supermarket. Competition, misleading bargains and entrenched working habits become the material for a lively comedy about putting customers first.

The artwork captures that everyday setting with warmth and humour. Miyamoto’s character stands at the centre in a vivid red outfit and a scarf patterned with blocks of green, yellow and orange. Her shopping basket contains groceries, including a prominently illustrated milk carton, while surrounding shoppers inspect shelves of packaged food and displays of fresh vegetables.

Expressive faces, flattened perspective and visible brushwork give the illustration a playful, almost storybook quality. The printed artist’s signature, “Sachiko.n”, appears at the lower right as part of the artwork.

Across the top, enormous cream-white Japanese lettering fills a red rectangular title panel.
